Banks, trusts, insurance companies and governments want to sell distressed assets and, private equity and other buyers want to buy. Depending upon markets, pricing, changes, assumptions, and asset classes, there is potentially a $3.4T marketplace for commercial distressed assets/loans for purchase, sale, workout, or restructuring, starting 2009 to 2018. Historic levels of distressed commercial real estate, whole loans and CMBS (and residential whole loans and RMBS) will be in need of restructuring or sale over the next coming years. CMBS represents some 25% of the total commercial real estate market, 50% is held by banks, 10% by insurance companies.
